FAQ
Wire transfer for tuition — it handles large amounts and gives the university a clean reference. A forex card is for living costs: it locks a rate, works like a debit card, and avoids per-transaction conversion markups.
Under the Liberalised Remittance Scheme an individual can remit up to USD 250,000 per financial year. Tuition paid directly to a university is normally covered comfortably within that.
Tax Collected at Source applies to remittances above the annual threshold, at a lower rate when the money comes from an education loan. It is not a cost — it is adjustable against your tax liability.
